Let’s get our rail services back on track

Green councillors and MSPs have a long history of fighting for decent public transport for all, from the Better Buses campaign in Glasgow, to campaigning against axing rural routes in Dumfries and Galloway.

With coal trucks no longer rolling towards Longannet we have the opportunity to reopen the Dunfermline to Alloa line and create a rail link all the way to Glasgow.

Greens secure extra funding for communities across Fife

Green MSPs played a key role in the 2017 budget negotiations in Holyrood, securing an extra £160m for councils across Scotland. In Fife this meant an additional £10.78m to spend in 2017/18, which saw some of the most damaging cuts proposed  in the draft budget in November being scrapped.

These had included proposals to increase class sizes in Fife schools to the maximum legal limit, removing free bus passes from some pupils, and closing all remaining public toilets in Fife.

Iain Morrice is an experienced member of the Scottish Green Party, having stood as a candidate on numerous occasions, and having acted as treasurer on the party executive.

International Women’s Day - but a democratic deficit in Fife

In the week that we celebrate International Women’s Day, we highlight the democratic deficit in Fife.

Among all the many celebrations of women’s achievements this week on social media, there was an undercurrent of disappointment and anger that we still have so much more to do. Nowhere is that more evident than in local politics, where women are grossly under-represented across the country.

Labour and the SNP traded barbs on whether Mr Osborne or Mr Swinney was the greatest villain, though frankly neither finance minister has done much to commend them to communities across Fife.
