Scottish Greens warn Reform UK risks taking Scotland backwards

The Scottish Greens have said Reform UK’s Scotland manifesto reveals a set of priorities that would benefit the wealthy while leaving ordinary people exposed to rising costs and devastated public services.
The proposals to cut taxes would benefit the richest in society and undermine the investment needed in essential services like, health, housing and education, at a time when many households across Scotland are already struggling.
The Greens have also accused Reform of stoking division rather than offering solutions, failing to address the root causes of inequality, and scapegoating migrants and vulnerable groups, while rolling back climate commitments and support for a just transition.
Scottish Green MSP Patrick Harvie said:
“Reform is a party of the super rich, for the super rich, and funded by the super rich. It should come as little surprise that this is not a manifesto for working people, it is a manifesto for the wealthy.
“It is a destructive plan that would result in huge cuts and speed up environmental breakdown. The only ones who would benefit are the rich, while ordinary families are left to pick up the pieces.
“They are choosing to divide communities rather than bring people together, with rhetoric that blames migrants and distracts from the real causes of inequality and economic pressure.
“Their plans would take Scotland backwards on climate, scrapping targets and doubling down on fossil fuels when we should be investing in clean, affordable energy and secure jobs for the future.
“Walking away from climate targets is reckless for the planet and economically short-sighted. It would mean turning our backs on the jobs and investment that come from building a clean energy future. Reform have already been pushing absurd climate denial lies during the campaign, and it’s essential that this is called out.
“Reform want to present themselves as being on the side of working people, but their own manifesto proves that’s untrue. This is a party that would rather reward those at the top while making life harder for everyone else.
“Scotland deserves better than that. Scotland has the potential to build a future that is fairer, greener and more equal, not one that takes us backwards, working for greedy landlords, big polluters and the super-rich.
“While parties like Reform want to take Scotland backwards economically, socially and environmentally, it is the Scottish Greens that are providing real solutions for ordinary people across Scotland. A vote for the Greens on 7th May is a vote to bring hope back to Scottish politics, and to stand up for Scotland’s workers, communities and families.”
