Scottish Greens hail seismic result
The Scottish Greens have secured record election results, with a higher vote share and more MSPs than ever before.
The party's co-leader Gillian Mackay said:
“This is a seismic result that will change our politics and change Scotland.
“I am grateful to everyone who has put their trust in us and supported our vision for a fairer, greener and independent future.
“Scotland has elected a record number of Green MSPs, and I couldn't be prouder of our new team.
“We have won our first constituencies and, for the first time, everyone in our country is represented by at least one Scottish Green MSP.
“Every one of them will be a voice for our planet, for equality and for a real alternative to a broken status quo.
“People have seen our record, from free bus travel for everyone under 22 to scrapping peak rail fares to ending school meal debt. We did all that with seven MSPs. Now we have doubled that number we can do even more.
“With a failed Labour government on its last legs in Westminster, and with the cost of living crisis biting, Green policies are more vital than ever.
“Throughout this election we urged Scotland to demand better, and that is exactly what we will deliver.”
