Only Greens are offering bold change Scotland needs

Time and again, the SNP has shown that they need the Scottish Greens to make them deliver the bold policies that Scotland needs, says Green co-leader Gillian Mackay.
Over the last five years, almost all of the boldest policies introduced by the Scottish Government were either secured directly by the Greens through negotiations or were the result of Green pressure.
- Free bus travel for everyone under 22
- The end of peak rail fares
- The removal of school meal debt
- The private jet tax
- The mansion tax
- A real living wage for all government contractors
- Rent controls
- The £2 bus fare cap in the Highlands and Islands
- The expansion of free school meals to thousands more pupils
- Record funding for nature restoration
These changes would not have happened without the Greens driving them.
With the 2026 election only days away, the Scottish Greens are prioritising making bus travel free for everyone, expanding free childcare to every child from six months and taking real climate action that cuts household bills.
Gillian said:
“Over the last five years we have shown the value that Scottish Green MSPs bring.
“We have been fully focused on putting money back in people's pockets and protecting our planet while asking those with the most to pay their fair share.
“It is because of the Scottish Greens that we have introduced free bus travel for young people, scrapped school meal debt and ended peak rail fares.
“The SNP would not have done these things on their own, they have needed Greens pushing them every step of the way.
“We've done this with only seven MSPs. If we have a record result on May 7th we can do far more to build a fairer, greener and better Scotland that works for ordinary people and families.
“The SNP is already moving away from the kind of progressive policies that Nicola Sturgeon introduced and stood for. Without the largest possible group of Green MSPs they will continue their rollback."
Gillian added:
“If we are to take our future into our own hands and have the independence referendum that Scotland wants then we need to elect the biggest pro-independence majority to date.
“The polls show that is possible, but they also show that it can only happen with the election of more Green MSPs than ever before.
“All over Scotland there are people demanding better, and the best way to deliver it is by voting for the Scottish Greens on May 7th.”
