Landmark poll puts Scottish Greens in touching distance of second place

Greens on course to more than double MSP numbers.

A groundbreaking new poll from Lord Ashcroft shows the Scottish Greens within touching distance of being the main opposition party in Holyrood, allowing the party to transform politics in Holyrood.

With the party on 17% on the regional list and 11% in the constituency vote, they are on course to more than double their number of MSPs.

The poll comes days after the party announced a record membership, with over 10,000 members across Scotland.

The party’s co-leader, Gillian Mackay MSP, said:

“This poll shows the huge and growing momentum behind the Scottish Greens and our vision for a fairer, greener and better Scotland.

“There is a lot of work to do between now and May 7th and we will never take anything for granted, but a result like this would transform Scottish politics and our country.

“It could put us as the main opposition in Holyrood, challenging power and making clear that we don’t have to accept things as they are.

“Poverty, inequality and environmental destruction are not inevitable. That is why more and more people are demanding change.

“I am proud of our record of delivery. It is the Scottish Greens who are responsible for introducing free bus travel for young people, scrapping peak rail fares for commuters and students and ending the terrible injustice of school meal debt that was hanging over far too many families.

“With more Green MSPs we can do even more to deliver for our climate and our communities and to halt the growth of Reform.”
