Deposit Return Scheme a watershed moment to be proud of

It will be a big step towards our Net Zero ambitions and it will also put Scotland in line with the many other countries that already run successful schemes, saud Mark Ruskell MSP.

Scotland’s Deposit Return Scheme will be a watershed moment for our relationship with recycling and single-use waste, say the Scottish Greens.

Ahead of a Scottish Parliament debate on the scheme, to be held by the Scottish Conservatives, the Scottish Greens environment spokesperson Mark Ruskell MSP said:

“The Deposit Return Scheme is a watershed moment for our environment.

“It has the potential to completely reset Scotland’s relationship with recycling and our approach to single-use litter, and can help to restore pride in taking care of our environment.

“The scheme will bring lots of positive changes and will substantially increase recycling and cutting waste. It will be a big step towards our Net Zero ambitions and it will also put Scotland in line with the many other countries that already run successful schemes.

“I welcome the changes that have been announced this week. They have been done In response to feedback from producers. The Scottish Government has listened and is addressing their concerns directly.

“One thing that has been extremely disappointing is the spread of half-truths, distortion and panic from the Tories. They have peddled disgraceful misinformation and tried to undermine this scheme from day one.

“I am delighted that Scotland is delivering a scheme that we can all be proud of, and that it is being led by a Green Minister.”
