Ministers should rethink approach to arts funding

Responding to today's publication of Creative Scotland's Arts Strategy, Ross Greer MSP, Culture spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, said:

"Over 70,000 people are already employed in the creative sector in Scotland, so we have a real opportunity to strengthen and grow this area of our economy. Scottish Ministers have forced some significant cuts on the arts in recent times, and they would do well to rethink their approach given the benefits to our communities and economy from a properly supported creative sector.

"In our 2016 Culture manifesto the Greens called for an intermittent work scheme to boost the income of artists between jobs. We'd urge the Scottish Government to consider exploring such a scheme.”
