Green surge continues with record breaking month

Ross Greer has welcomed the more than 1,000 new members who have joined the Scottish Greens in the last 30 days, the largest period of growth for the party since the immediate aftermath of the 2014 independence referendum.
Membership of the eco-socialist party now sits at over 8,800 with the number rising towards 9,000 at pace.
The Scottish Greens’ co-leader recently challenged Scottish Labour to publish their membership figures as well. The total membership of Keir Starmer’s party in Scotland is a closely guarded secret, but is widely suspected to be in freefall and may now be smaller than the Scottish Greens.
Green membership in Scotland already comfortably exceeds the Tories and Lib Dems, both of whom the party has also beaten in recent opinion polls.
Ross said:
“This is a hugely exciting time for the Scottish Greens. We’re seeing exactly what happens when you inject hope back into Scottish politics.
“Our message is simple, this can be a fairer, greener country if only we are brave enough to stand up to the super-rich individuals, greedy companies and big polluters holding Scotland back.
“More and more people from every corner of the country are joining the Scottish Greens. We’re welcoming new members from Shetland to Stranraer every day. People who share our eco-socialist vision for an independent Scotland know that this is the moment to join the movement and help turn that vision into reality.
“And it's not just our membership that’s growing. We’re hitting our highest ever levels of support in the polls, coinciding with the swing in favour of independence. It’s clear that people across Scotland are ready for the kind of change on offer by the Scottish Greens.”
Challenging Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, Ross added:
“Gillian Mackay and I have a clear aim as leaders of Scotland’s eco-socialist party. We intend to replace the failed Labour party.
“We will stand up for working class communities hammered by the disastrous policies inflicted on them by the Tories and now by Keir Starmer. Labour would rather protect the super-rich than ordinary families. They would rather hold up the capitalist system which has exploited ordinary people and trashed our planet than upset their wealthy donors.
“Scotland deserves better, and it is the Scottish Greens who are offering that. We are at Labour’s heels across the country, because we actually offer people hope. We know this country can be fairer and greener, and we know how to make that a reality, building on the money-saving policies we’ve already delivered like free bus travel for young people and scrapping peak rail fares.”
