FMQs: Greens call for SNP to publish long overdue energy strategy
Following the failure of COP 29, and with a Scottish Government budget looming, the SNP must finally publish its long overdue energy strategy, says Scottish Green co-leader Patrick Harvie.
Speaking at First Minister’s Questions, Mr Harvie underlined the urgent need to transition from fossil fuels and publish the plans that are sitting with the Scottish Government nearly two years after the draft was published.
In a question to the First Minister, Mr Harvie said:
“World leaders have once again failed to make progress at the global climate conference.
“They all know the urgency of transitioning away from fossil fuels, and the public gets it too - polling from the think-tank Uplift shows that here in Scotland, most business leaders are backing the transition to a fossil-free energy system.
“Yet the Scottish Government has still not published or set out the new Energy Strategy that’s supposed to shift Scotland away from fossil-fuels - it’s still sitting on the First Minister’s desk, nearly two years after the draft was published.
“Scotland needs clarity. Our renewables industry and the energy workforce need clarity, and Parliament needs to see the strategy so we can see if the Scottish Government is funding it properly. Will the First Minister finally end the delay, and publish the strategy before next week’s budget?”
