Wes Streeting isn't the change Scotland needs
Reacting to the news that Wes Streeting has resigned as English Health Secretary, Scottish Greens co-leader Ross Greer MSP said:
“Time is up for Starmer. He will be remembered as the Prime Minister who tried to cut the winter fuel payment, attacked disabled people and armed Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
“Wes Streeting has defended Starmer’s cruel Tory-lite policies for years and has even closer ties to the disgraced Peter Mandelson than the Prime Minister himself. He has taken hundreds of thousands of pounds in donations from private health companies while serving as Health Secretary, and has attacked trade unions representing key healthcare workers.
“Labour promised change, but instead they have chosen to continue the Tories’ legacy of failure and chaos. All of this is designed to protect their donors and super-rich pals, rather than deliver the help people and our planet really need.
“It’s clearer now than ever that to deliver the change Scotland needs, to cut household bills and tackle the climate emergency, we need to be an independent country back in the European Union.”
