Tory plans would mean more pain for Scotland

The Tories have already done enough damage to Scotland.

Responding to the Conservative Party’s 2026 Manifesto, the Scottish Greens have blasted the plans as more of the same managed decline leading to more pain for Scotland.

Scottish Greens Economy spokesperson, Lorna Slater said:

"The Tories have yet again, set out another disastrous blueprint to inflict even more pain on Scotland.

“The Tories have spent decades sabotaging Scotland’s economy and public services through public cuts, forcing a Brexit that Scotland overwhelmingly did not vote for, and pursuing a hostile environment for New Scots.

“People all across Scotland are still paying for that Tory incompetence. They are paying through higher bills, weaker public services and an economy that has widened the wealth divide, making people poorer while lining the pockets of the super-rich.

“While the Tories continue to dance to Nigel Farage’s tune by defending Brexit, scapegoating migrants and cutting vital services, their manifesto looks more like managed decline than a bold plan for Scotland's future.

“We know - after decades of it - that tax cuts benefitting the rich and powerful are ultimately funded by cuts for those who need it most. That was not a credible plan under the long list of failed Tory Prime Ministers, and it is certainly not a credible plan now.

“What Scotland needs is a government that will demand better by putting people and planet before profit that works in the interest of the common good, not in the interest of billionaire bank balances.”

Lorna added:

“The Scottish Greens are setting out a very different vision for Scotland’s future. A future that cuts the costs for household bills, expands free public transport, offers affordable childcare, builds more homes, and properly funds our vital services.

“Instead of hitting the poorest the hardest, the Greens will ensure it is the super-rich that pay what they should.

“In just a few weeks, voters will have a choice. More of the same old ‘Conservative way’ that has made people worse off, or a fairer, greener alternative that demands better by actually investing in our people, communities and future.”
