Responding to the announcement that ScotRail will reduce off-peak tickets by 50% between stations across Scotland in May, Scottish Greens transport spokesperson Mark Ruskell MSP said:

“I warmly welcome the news that rail fares in Scotland are to be slashed throughout the month of May.

“With Greens in government we’ve already delivered free bus travel for young people and I’m pleased that there’s now a focus on making rail travel more affordable.

“It’s vital that we explore every avenue to support people as the Tory cost of living crisis bites and I’m sure this rail fare reduction will be positively received by the public.”

FMQs: First Minster clear on fossil fuels expansion

Scottish Greens energy and climate spokesperson Mark Ruskell MSP today welcomed a “crystal clear” response  from the First Ministers that the Tories must not seek to fast track climate busting fossil fuel projects in the north sea.

Speaking at FMQs Mr Ruskell noted the best way to slash energy bills is to replace gas with green energy.

Mark Ruskell MSP said:

“I welcome this crystal clear commitment from the First Minister that Tory attempts to fast track fossil fuel expansion, including the Jackdaw field, must be curtailed.

UK Government wait and see approach on cost of living appalling

The UK Government’s wait and see approach to those struggling with the cost of living crisis is appalling, Scottish Greens energy and climate spokesperson Mark Ruskell MSP said today.

Mr Ruskell made the comments after questioning UK Energy Minister Greg Hands at a session of the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee this morning.

Mark Ruskell MSP said:

“The UK Government is being cold and dismissive of the plight faced by families in fuel poverty.

Responding to Dr Colin Church’s Independent Review of the Role of Incineration in the Waste Hierarchy in Scotland, Scottish Greens environment spokesperson Mark Ruskell MSP said:
