Scottish Greens Co-leader, Gillian Mackay MSP will address the 129th Scottish Trade Union Centre Congress in Dundee on 22nd April 2026.

Gillian will be the first Scottish Greens Co-leader to ever address the Congress.

This year’s theme is Workers United Demanding Better. The theme highlights the need for bold, radical action on the cost-of-living crisis, on wages, and industrial strategy as well as on combatting the rising far-right.

The STUC represents over 560,000 workers through 44 affiliated trade unions and 19 trade union councils.

Scottish Greens Co-leader, Gillian Mackay said:

“I am delighted to be addressing the STUC Congress, and am proud to be the first Green co-leader to do so.

“The STUC has been instrumental in securing more and better rights for workers all over our country. They have stood up for workers in struggle and done so much to tackle exploitation and discrimination in workplaces and in wider society.

“The trade union movement is about solidarity, standing together and raising wages and conditions, and those are core to our vision of a greener Scotland. At a time of growing inequality these values are more vital than ever.

“I'm looking forward to addressing the Congress and sharing the work the Scottish Greens will do to make Scotland a fairer, greener and better place for workers and their families.”

Commenting, STUC General Secretary Roz Foyer:

“We welcome Gillian to Congress and look forward to hearing what the Scottish Green Party will offer working people across Scotland who are demanding better for their communities.

“We need bold, radical action on the cost-of-living crisis, on wages, on industrial strategy and, just as importantly, on combatting the perverse, far-right forces who are intent on pitting worker against worker.

“Congress will further demand a Scotland that works for the people, not the profiteers. For too long has power and wealth resided in the hands of the few. The politicians from across Scotland’s political spectrum, who are seeking the votes of workers across our movement, should join us in that demand to build a country and an economy that serves working people, not the privileged."
