Rishi Sunak and Piers Morgan’s twisted Rwanda ‘bet’ is vile and vindictive

The PM is showing contempt for the lives of vulnerable people.

A twisted TV ‘bet’ between the Prime Minister and celebrity interviewer Piers Morgan is reducing the lives of people seeking asylum to nothing more than a game show, say the Scottish Greens.

The party’s outraged justice spokesperson, Maggie Chapman, condemned footage of an interview to be broadcast tonight that shows the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, making a £1000 bet with host Piers Morgan that he will deport asylum seekers to Rwanda this year.

Ms Chapman said: “This is utterly vile. What could be more distasteful than the sight of two multi-millionaires joking about the fate of some of the world’s most vulnerable people on national TV?

“Every time it seems like this Prime Minister has hit rock bottom he falls even further. It’s the sort of thing that satirists wouldn’t go near as it would seem too grotesque and unbelievable.

“This isn’t a game. The Rwanda deportation policy is one of the most vindictive and disgraceful anti-migrant policies ever dreamt up by a UK government.

“Safe routes and humanity are needed more than ever, but the Prime Minister has made clear that he is more concerned with dehumanising gimmicks and merrily treating human lives like a twisted game show than he is with international law.”
