Our full support should be behind teachers to bring workloads down

Responding to news that Secondary members of the EIS have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action over excessive workloads, Ross Greer, Education spokesperson for the Scottish Greens and MSP for West of Scotland, said:

“Teachers do not take these decisions lightly and our full support should be behind their campaign to bring workloads down to a manageable level. The growing pressure teachers have been under has been ignored by the Scottish Government for too long.

“I’m sure students and parents will understand the frustration and support this necessary action. Failure to end the duplication of assessments is just one example of staff not being listened to. Teachers play a vital role in helping young people do well in life and they deserve fair treatment so they can do their jobs.”
