Loss of 100 Greggs jobs will have huge impact on Midlothian economy

Responding to news that bakery chain Greggs plans to close its bakery at Loanhead in Midlothian, resulting in the loss of more than 100 jobs, Alison Johnstone, Scottish Green MSP for Lothian, said:

“Greggs management must keep the staff fully informed about the timescale for closure. I urge the Scottish Government and its agencies to stand ready to provide employment support for affected staff. This shock announcement underlines the importance of encouraging more local businesses with roots in the community to provide economic stability.”

Ian Baxter, Midlothian Green councillor, said:

“The loss of over 100 jobs at this site in Loanhead is terrible news for the workers affected, and it will have a huge impact on the Midlothian economy. I know Midlothian Council will seek to offer help in any way it can. We must minimise the impact of this announcement.”
