Independence can deliver a fairer, greener and better future

Only a pro-indy majority can deliver independence, say Greens

Next year’s Holyrood election is a crucial and historic opportunity for Scotland to demand another independence referendum, but it will need the largest-ever pro-independence majority, and Scottish Green MSPs must be at its heart.

The Scottish Greens are the only party campaigning for an independent Scottish Republic that will rejoin the European Union and abolish the monarchy, because Scotland’s Head of State should be the choice of Scotland’s people.

With Westminster’s parties lurching even further to the right, a devastating Brexit forced upon Scotland, and at least a million young people eligible to vote in the next referendum who couldn’t vote in 2014, it is clear that the circumstances have changed vastly since the last vote.

Scottish Greens constitution spokesperson Patrick Harvie MSP said:

“Every vote for the Scottish Greens will be a clear and unambiguous vote for Scottish independence, but also for more than that - for a fairer, greener and better future.

“It is more vital than ever that we have the power to choose our own path. Westminster has failed. We’ve had Labour and Tories in Downing Street, lurching to the right, cutting support for pensioners and disabled people, attacking refugees and immigrants, destroying our climate, and arming Israel’s genocide against Palestinians.

“Now with Nigel Farage and his gaggle of conmen looking to be the next through the doors of Number 10, independence is the only way to build that fairer, greener Scotland that so many in this country believe in.

“Time and again, Westminster has shown that it can’t be trusted to protect our planet, our workers or our most vulnerable friends and neighbours. It doesn’t have to be like this. Scotland can do so much better.

“It is a democratic outrage that successive Prime Ministers have chosen to ignore Scotland’s voice while inflicting such brutal and dehumanising policies. It must end. The stakes are too high for business as usual.

“Next year, Scotland has a chance to put people before profit, tackle the climate emergency and build a better future. Every vote for the Scottish Greens in the Holyrood election is a vote for an independent Scottish Republic, a vote for our climate, and a vote for our European future.”
