Greens welcome nationalisation deal for Ardrossan Harbour

This move is a credit to the local campaigners who have called for it.

Scottish Green co-leader Ross Greer has welcomed the news that a deal has been agreed to bring Ardrossan Harbour into public ownership.

Ross said:

“This is a very welcome and long overdue move, and a tribute to the local campaigners who have led the calls for it.

“Peel Ports have run Ardrossan Harbour terribly and refused to invest, with local people and services having to pay the price for their profiteering and neglect.

“Ardrossan to Brodick is one of the busiest passenger routes in Scotland. It is a vital part of our national infrastructure, but critical redevelopment work has been pushed back time and again.

“Privatised ports have been a disaster for Scotland. Owners based in overseas tax havens have squeezed out all the profit they can whilst failing my constituents on Arran and in Ardrossan.

“It’s time for Ardrossan Harbour - and every other Scottish port - to be brought back into public ownership.”
