Electrification delay will be frustrating for Glasgow-Edinburgh rail users

Responding to news that the electrification of the rail line between Edinburgh and Glasgow won't be completed until July next year - seven months behind schedule - Patrick Harvie, Scottish Green MSP for Glasgow, said:

“The delays revealed today will be frustrating for Glasgow-Edinburgh rail users, who have long been promised a better service. It’s simply not good enough to see electric services on the line between Scotland’s two biggest cities shunted back to July next year.

“For too long governments have put their greatest efforts into roadbuilding, desperate to be 'on time and on budget' whenever it comes to keeping motorists happy. We should expect nothing less when it comes to much-needed improvements to our public transport system. Scottish Ministers must hold Network Rail to account so that the travelling public are not left behind.”
