Disposable vape ban will be big day for climate and communities
April 1st 2025 will be a big day for our climate and communities, says Scottish Green health spokesperson Gillian Mackay MSP, who has hailed the announcement that this is the day Scotland will ban disposable vapes.
Ms Mackay, who has been leading calls for the ban at Holyrood, said it is a decision that will benefit young people and our local environments for years to come.
She said: “April 1st 2025 will be a big day for our climate and communities, and one that will benefit young people and our local environments for years to come.
“Disposable vapes are bad for public health and hugely damaging to our planet. They are wasteful and irresponsible, and have been a menace to high streets, parks and beaches all over Scotland. I am delighted that we are so close to removing them for good.
“The message from medical professionals, health campaigners and environmentalists has been clear: disposable vapes have got to go. I am proud to have worked so closely with them and so many others on securing this ban, and am proud that it will be a Scottish Green Minister, Lorna Slater, who will oversee it.
“In the meantime, there are really important steps that retailers can take right now, such as ensuring that, like cigarettes, disposable vapes are hidden from public view, and highlighting how and where they can be responsibly disposed of in store.”
