Cheaper, accesible transport for big Glasgow events

Scottish Greens call for free buses to events at Hampden

The Scottish Greens have urged the Scottish Football Association to work with transport providers and the community to offer dedicated free bus travel to and from Hampden Park with match and event tickets.

Local Green councillor and Holyrood candidate Holly Bruce has called for the change, which would lower costs for fans while relieving road congestion and making for a more liveable community in Mount Florida.

Cllr Holly Bruce said:

"We all love to see our favourite artists and football teams at Scotland’s National stadium.

“But anyone who’s travelled to Hampden for a game or a gig knows exactly how busy the roads and trains can get. And anyone who lives in the shadow of the stadium knows just how many fans line our streets for stadium shows.

“It means that local parking and trains are chaotic, while traffic congestion blocks our roads. Our football fans, gig-goers and the good folk of Mount Florida deserve better."

Patrick Harvie MSP added:

"We’re calling on the Scottish Football Association to work with the community to offer free dedicated bus travel to and from Hampden Park with every event or match day ticket. We’ve already written to the SFA and key partners to call for action.

“We’re inviting the SFA, Glasgow City Council, First Bus, Police Scotland and the Community Council to get around the table and make this a reality. But they’ll only do that if we stand together and make our voices heard."
