Braverman Rwanda link calls shameful UK Government policy into question

Suella Braverman's links to high level Rwandan government figures puts her racist and reactionary deportation scheme Into serious question.

The Home Secretary Suella Braverman’s links with the Rwandan government calls Downing Street’s shameful Rwanda deportation scheme into serious question, say the Scottish Greens.

Reports from the Independent reveal that from 2010-2015 the Home Secretary was involved in training Rwandan government lawyers, with several of them now serving as senior members of President Paul Kagame’s government.

That has led to questions about any alleged potential involvement of individuals over the UK’s disgraceful deal to send asylum seekers to Rwanda.

Scottish Greens justice spokesperson, Maggie Chapman MSP, said:

“Suella Braverman is stumbling from one controversy to another.

“But these latest revelations go right to the heart of the UK government’s racist, anti-migrant policies.

“The Rwandan government is a repressive one that has been widely linked to torture and other human rights abuses.

“Yet now we learn that Braverman has been working with senior Rwandan government figures and litigators in order to implement an immoral and illegal policy.

“This raises many more questions than answers.

“Who did she train, when did discussions take place and did she work with them on this disgraceful policy?

“The Home Secretary has described deportation flights as a dream and an obsession and has overseen the most brutal crackdown on refugee rights for decades.

“It’s not just her tenure that we need to end, it’s the whole vile worldview that she represents.”
