After 13 years of failing to comply with planning conditions, Patersons Quarries is seeking to expand operations at Burrowine Quarry in West Fife. We must stop the expansion of Silica Sands!

Exhausted residents have been fighting for noise and light pollution to be tackled by the operators. They are also extremely concerned by the level of silica dust polluting the air and the potential health risks associated with it.

It is vital that the economic benefits of quarrying do not come at the expense of our environment and health.

In 2008, Fife Council removed planning conditions requiring Patersons Quarries to plant trees which would have provided essential screening for residents. In total the council removed 18 planning conditions set in the original approval in 2000. One included the requirement for a Compliance Officer, with the first compliance assessment to take place six months after planning permission was granted. A Compliance Officer was not appointed for 13 years.

The community at Bogside and Righead do not want the quarry to be expanded.

Make your voice heard and write to Fife Council to object to further mineral permissions being granted to Patersons until residents’ concerns are addressed. Company profits should not take priority over protecting our environment.

Tell Fife Council to stop the expansion
