In 2020, a young person was walking home from a friend’s birthday party when they were tragically hit and killed by a car travelling at high speed down the A96.
The A96 cuts right through the heart of their home village of Brodie, posing a significant danger to everyone living there. Yet, despite years of accidents and lobbying by local residents, the speed limit remains unchanged.
Not only does this put lives at risk, it cuts the village off from the nearby town of Forres for people who walk or cycle, leaving the community and those around it more isolated.
In recent years, several pedestrians and motorists have tragically lost their lives on this stretch of road. These aren’t just statistics; they’re friends, family, and neighbours. The current speed limit is simply too high for a road that runs through a residential area, and it is time for action.
Last year, the Transport Secretary acknowledged the danger of this stretch of road in Parliament. But since then no action has been taken.
Help make Brodie and nearby communities like Dyke and Conicaval safer, and connect them to the wider area by emailing the Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop today and urging her to take immediate action.
