Homes must be for people, not profit
Rent is skyrocketing. With hikes of up to 105% since 2010, we're being forced to spend more and more, reducing our standard of living and pushing many into poverty and even homelessness.
But now we have a chance to change that.
Last year Scottish Greens introduced legislation to create the first permanent system of private rent controls for more than 35 years. This would severely constrain rent increases, with independent analysis showing that had these been in place since 2019 someone renting a two-bedroom property in Lothian would now be £272 a month better off.
And for those areas where rents are already too high, this would allow Councils to impose stricter controls, meaning lower increases, freezes or even rent reductions.
But this won't happen without your help.
Tell the housing minister Paul McLennan to support these proposals and stop rip-off rents.
