Bus fares in Scotland are extortionate, it’s time to change that. Join us in calling for the £2 bus fare cap to be rolled out nationwide!
We are in a cost of living and climate crisis, and every household is facing the challenges of rising bills as a result. Living and working is becoming more and more expensive, but our commutes shouldn’t have to cost the earth.
That’s why the Scottish Greens introduced a £2 bus fare cap across the Highlands and Islands, and around Strathclyde, but the Scottish Government have said it could be another five years before the rest of Scotland benefits from a national £2 cap.
Meanwhile, England has had a national cap since 2023, and it’s set to be reduced to £2 in January. Scotland should not have to wait for the same action on the cost of living.
Many rural communities and Scottish towns rely on piecemeal for-profit bus services which leave them paying extortionate fares for infrequent or unreliable services. It’s simply not good enough to leave our communities relying on profiteering transport tycoons to live their lives.
Through scrapping peak rail fares and the pilot of the £2 cap, the Scottish Greens have already made public transport the cheapest, easiest option for thousands of commuters, but we must go further to ensure everyone has access to cheap, reliable public transport.
This is just a first step towards making Scotland’s buses free for everyone, and taking our bus companies back under public control so the interests of communities are put before the interests of private profits.
Join our campaign to make buses cheaper for everyone in Scotland.
