Lorna grew up in Glenrothes, where she also brought up her two daughters. She has lived in Markinch since 1990. She has worked hard all her adult life on community issues, and founded an environmental group, which addresses many local issues; including “Food for Free” and helping to get local allotments established.
Having taught at Glenrothes College for many years, Lorna returned to university in her 50s to gain her Masters in Environmental Management, which started a 2nd exciting career for her in environmental issues. She is passionate about renewable energy and energy efficiency. She is a member of the steering group for the Broad Alliance against Unconventional Gas Extraction, actively opposing fracking in Fife and the Forth. She is also passionate about Scottish Independence, and worked tirelessly to get the independence message out on the doorsteps.
This year Lorna has spent several weeks in Greece, volunteering with refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan fleeing war and destruction. She is now working closely with her MP and Green MSPs to put pressure on the U.K. government to accept more refugees. She is particularly concerned about the treatment of the thousands of unaccompanied minors who live in constant danger.
