John, a former SNP MSP who left because of the SNP's commitment to remain a part of NATO, is currently a member of the Scottish Parliament's Local Government and Communities Committee and of the Public Petitions Committee. He formerly attended the University of Glasgow and Coatbridge College. His career history includes time working with the Poverty Alliance and the Scottish Low Pay Unit.
