University of Dundee staff cuts a “shocking act of vandalism”

North East Scotland regional MSP and University of Dundee rector Maggie Chapman condemns proposed job losses at the University of Dundee

Scottish Greens MSP and rector of the University of Dundee, Maggie Chapman, has spoken about job cuts at the University as a “shocking act of vandalism that will pile further crisis on the institution…The sense of betrayal will be felt by staff and students all across the campus and beyond.”

Since news first emerged of the University’s 30m deficit as a result of disastrous decisions by senior management, Chapman has worked hard to advocate for the University, writing to the Scottish Minister for Higher Education and presenting to the Education Committee, urging government to intervene to save the institution and for a proper investigation.

As she has previously commented: “This crisis is a product of senior management’s bad decision-making and poor governance…Lecturers, researchers, technicians, student support workers - all those who actually make the university work - should not be made to pay the price for the negligence and incompetence of management”.
