Truss and Kwarteng not fit to be in Downing Street
Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng are not fit to be in Downing Street, according to the Scottish Greens, who have accused them of "stunning incompetence" and cruelty.
This follows the announcement of an intervention from the Bank of England to stave off a “material risk to UK financial stability.”
Scottish Greens finance spokesperson Ross Greer MSP said:
"The scale of incompetence we've seen from the Prime Minister and her Chancellor is unprecedented. It is stunning. They've only been in office for a matter of days, but it would be hard to overstate how disastrous their actions have already been.
"In less than a week since their first budget we have seen the pound in freefall, the IMF raising concerns and now the Bank of England being forced to intervene.
"Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng are clearly not fit to be in Downing Street. Their cruel and inept mishandling of the economy will have serious consequences for millions of families who are being stretched from all directions.
"The Tories have proven that they have absolutely no economic credibility, but they can at least limit the damage of their actions if they reverse course immediately.
"Every day that Scotland's economy sits in their hands is another day of spiralling prices for households and nationwide economic decline. We can do so much better as an independent nation in Europe, with control over our own finances."
