Scottish Green Co-leader Gillian Mackay has urged MSPs from all parties to support her motion to evict US military forces from Glasgow Prestwick Airport and all publicly-owned Scottish sites.

New data compiled by the party from Flightradar24 shows that US military flights have landed at Prestwick more than 550 times since 1 April 2025, with aircraft touching down on most days.

The motion for debate (S6M-20819) states that under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, the United States has shown disregard for Scottish and international law and that continued use of publicly-owned infrastructure risks making Scotland complicit in actions that conflict with both domestic and international legal norms.

The Scottish Greens will urge the Parliament to oppose ongoing US military use of Prestwick and other Scottish Government-owned airports and call on ministers to immediately end access for US military aircraft.

Green co-leader Gillian Mackay MSP said:

“Donald Trump has a contempt for human rights, democracy and international law. He has armed genocide in Gaza, carried out an immoral and illegal coup in Venezuela and threatened our European neighbours.

“With families being rounded up and deported and innocent people being killed by ICE, he is inflicting fascism at home while acting like a rogue state on the world stage.

“Do we really want Scotland to be complicit in his actions? I hope other parties will agree that the last thing we should be doing is allowing his troops to use our assets while he causes such chaos.

“By banning Trump’s army from our airports we can send a message and halt one of the practical ways that our government is directly supporting him.

“Prestwick Airport is not a private military base. It is a publicly-owned airport, operated under the authority of the Scottish Government. Ministers must act without delay to ensure our infrastructure is not used to boost Trump or his agenda.

“The Scottish Government’s powers may be limited, but they need to use the ones they have to take a stand. I am calling on them to back our proposals and kick US forces out of Scotland.”
