Stadium plans threaten Dundee nature

Dundee FC's controversial plans for a new stadium would result in destruction of trees and green space

Stadium plans threaten Dundee nature and culture

Local campaigners are sounding the alarm about the threat to nature from Dundee FC’s plans for a new out of town stadium. The controversial proposal would destroy a nature rich green space including 150 mature trees and impinge directly on Camperdown Park.

The stadium, which would replace Dens Park , is being proposed by a new company called Dark Blue Property Holdings, one of whose two directors is an investment manager based in Texas.

Leslie Martin, a volunteer with Camperdown growing cooperative Campy Growers said: “The more I look into it the more I come to believe that this isn’t about football - it’s about making a profit for a property developer. The new stadium will destroy a wildlife rich greenspace that is a public amenity and cause irreparable damage to an important part of our city’s heritage - Camperdown Park.”
