SNP must finally come clean on Rosebank and polluting energy projects

SNP is trying to face all ways on climate.

The Scottish Greens have asked the SNP to clarify its position on Rosebank after Stephen Flynn blamed environmental risk assessments for blocking the climate-wrecking oil field.

Stephen Flynn said the Tories were 'responsible for their own failed environmental risk assessments that blocked Rosebank'.

The comments come after years of confusion over the SNP’s position on new oil and gas projects.

Patrick Harvie MSP said:

“The SNP Government has, for years now, failed to offer clarity on what it believes on new oil projects, like Rosebank.

“Stephen Flynn’s comments in Holyrood today show that the SNP are moving further and further away from the climate action they once promised, at a time when we need to fully commit to renewable energy.

“The Scottish Government had previously said that oil and gas projects must be subject to environmental assessment. Now the SNP is blaming the very existence of those assessments for Rosebank being blocked.

“The SNP cannot keep trying to face both ways. Either it supports new oil and gas projects, or it wants to tackle the climate crisis. There is no climate compatibility test worthy of the name which Rosebank could ever pass.

“Unlike the SNP, the Scottish Greens have been abundantly clear - Rosebank would be a disaster for our climate, unleashing hundreds of millions of tonnes of pollution."
