Securing trade union reps on college boards a milestone moment for workers
Today’s announcement that college boards will be required to provide spaces for trade union representatives is a ‘milestone moment’ for college workers’ rights, say the Scottish Greens.
The Scottish Government has written to trade unions and college management, urging them to engage in a consultation published today on precisely how the nomination of trade union representatives to college boards will work.
Scottish Greens education spokesperson Ross Greer MSP said:
“Trade union representation has been missing for far too long on many of the boards overseeing our colleges. The Scottish Greens have been pressing hard on the issue, so we’re delighted that it is now back on track.
“Trade unions provide essential support and representation and ensuring the voice of their members is heard at the very top of colleges is absolutely vital. This is a milestone moment for workers’ rights in the college sector and will ensure far stronger governance and representation.”
