Commenting on the resignations from Boris Johnson’s cabinet this evening, Scottish Greens MSP Gillian Mackay said:

“Boris Johnson has always been unfit to hold public office.

“It is of course welcome to see his Cabinet finally move against him, but we shouldn’t let them pretend it is for anything other than self-serving reasons.

“The Prime Minister’s actions over the course of the weekend are exactly what we’ve come to expect from the lying lawbreaker currently in residence at number ten.

“As communities across Scotland and the UK struggle to deal with the worst cost of living crisis in decades, Johnson’s government has been engulfed in sleaze, scandal and general incompetence, offering little help to those struggling the most.

“It’s clear that the game is up for Johnson. His time in Downing Street is coming to an end.

“What’s also clear is that anyone with even a shred of credibility must conclude that the people of Scotland have a right to decide that they do not wish to live under governments that they have never voted for, led by the likes of Mr Johnson.”

Greens welcome paper on Renewing Democracy Through Independence

Thu 14 Jul, 2022

The Scottish Greens have welcomed the publication of Renewing Democracy Through Independence, the second Scottish Government paper in the Building a New Scotland series.

Scottish Green MSP Gillian Mackay said:

“For far too long, Scotland has had to endure disastrous and unaccountable Tory governments that we did not vote for.”

“Devolution has made a difference but it has also served to highlight the limits of powers: from implementing the single use plastics ban to climate action and from public transport to investing in our green recovery.”
