Scottish Green membership hits record high

With 9235 members, the Scottish Greens have hit a historic high.
More than 1800 have joined since April, with the party and its branches growing in every part of Scotland.
The Greens have long overtaken the Scottish Tories and Liberal Democrats in size, and are challenging Scottish Labour to publish their membership numbers.
Hailing the announcement, the party’s Co-leader, Gillian Mackay, said:
“I am delighted to be the Co-leader of a party that is growing all over Scotland, and am grateful to everyone who has joined our movement.
“More and more people are joining the Scottish Greens because they share our vision for a fairer, greener and independent Scotland that puts people before profit.
“Every new member is another voice for our climate and for ordinary people and families who are being hammered by a rigged system.
“We know that Scotland can do so much better than this. It is only the Scottish Greens who are prepared to offer the bold solutions that we need if we are to cut the cost of living and tackle the climate crisis.
“Scotland faces a crucial choice next May. Labour has failed to deliver the change it promised. They have implemented cruel cuts against disabled people and armed Israel’s genocide against Gaza while mimicking Reform with racist anti-migrant policies.
“Meanwhile the SNP is shredding its climate credentials and refusing to deliver the bold action that is needed for people and planet.
“Every vote for the Scottish Greens makes a difference. It is Green MSPs and Green members who have delivered free bus travel for everyone under 22, removed peak rail fares, secured record investment in nature and scrapped school meal debt. With a record number of members we can do even more.
“There is a growing desire for change in Scotland, and we are the only party with the plans to deliver it. I urge everyone who shares our vision for a better Scotland to join us today and fight for the real change that is so badly needed.”
