Scottish Government showing climate leadership while Westminster fuels environmental breakdown
Scotland is showing the kind of bold climate leadership which is so necessary while Downing Street is fuelling environmental breakdown, say the Scottish Greens.
The Scottish Government has announced a groundbreaking new deal with industry to deliver more windfarms and benefit communities, boost the economy and reduce carbon emissions, as part of its push with the Scottish Greens towards net zero.
As a result of the deal, the average time for applications for large wind farms will be reduced by 50%, with commitments for a new recycling hub for old turbines and an industry commitment to boost apprenticeships, training opportunities and skilled jobs.
Scottish Greens climate spokesperson, Mark Ruskell MSP, said:
“This is a major step forward for onshore wind in Scotland and will make a real and positive difference.
“It is the kind of climate leadership which is so vital and I am proud that we have Scottish Greens in government working to deliver it.
“A just transition isn’t only vital for our environment, but also for our economy. With this kind of investment and support we can have cleaner air and streets and can deliver the high quality green jobs of the future.
“All of this is a stark contrast from the climate-wrecking UK government which is rolling back on its obligations, doubling down on fossil fuels and driving environmental breakdown.
“We have had a summer of wildfires and environmental chaos, and the Tories are taking the worst possible course of action at the worst possible time.
“Climate breakdown is already having a devastating impact on millions of people, and will for generations to come. The decisions we make today will have a direct impact on people around the world, that is why we need to make sure we get them right.”
