Scottish Government must deliver for Mossmorran workers

Mossmorran workers need support.

Mossmorran’s workers need an urgent package of financial support to save jobs and livelihoods, says Scottish Green MSP Mark Ruskell

Speaking ahead of a scheduled Parliamentary statement on “Progressing a Just Transition at Grangemouth”, the Scottish Greens have demanded that Mossmorran’s workers receive at least the same package of support as the Grangemouth workforce.

This call comes after repeated calls from the Greens for the Scottish Government to produce a promised Just Transition Plan for Mossmorran, and for ring-fenced funding for the site’s transition.

Mark said:

“Mossmorran’s closure may no longer be dominating the headlines, but for the hundreds of workers at the site, the impending closure is not something they can ignore.

“It’s been three weeks since Exxon Mobil announced they were cutting and running. But the workers and the local community are still waiting for any tangible package of support from either the UK Government or Scottish Government.

“These workers have been abandoned by Exxonmobil. But they have also been let down by both the UK Government and Scottish Government who are holding out on providing basic financial support for a fair and just transition at the site.

“We need to learn from what has happened at Grangemouth. Those workers rightly had a plan, but it was too late. We can’t let the same thing happen again.

“It is crucial that both Governments get their act together to deliver a proper package of support without delay - urgently securing green jobs and livelihoods in Fife.”
