Rosebank: Only Greens will stand up for our climate

The Scottish Greens are the only party who can be trusted to stand against the polluters who are destroying our planet, says Patrick Harvie MSP.
Patrick called out the “climate cowardice” of SNP and Labour who refused to back a Scottish Green motion to oppose the destructive Rosebank proposals.
At nearly 500 million barrels, Rosebank is the biggest undeveloped oil and gas field in the North Sea. In January the Court of Session ruled that consent for the controversial proposals had been unlawful.
Fossil fuel giant Equinor has submitted a new application, in which they’ve had to admit that the proposal would produce 250 million new tonnes of carbon emissions, around 50 times as much as previously admitted.
Patrick said:
“What we have seen this afternoon is climate cowardice. Our world is on fire but MSPs have chosen to look the other way.
“Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf rightly opposed this destructive project when they were in Bute House, but the SNP has taken a big step backwards.
“If Rosebank is given the go-ahead it will be a grave act of environmental vandalism that will make us even more dependent on volatile and dirty fossil fuels for decades to come.
“If we are to have a sustainable future and cut household bills then we need to invest in clean, green and renewable energy rather than continuing down this climate-wrecking path.
“With the Tories committed to scrapping Scotland’s climate change laws outright, and the SNP and Labour trying to avoid taking any kind of position at all, it is increasingly clear that the Scottish Greens are the only party who will stand up for people and planet.”
