OVER 7,500 SIGN #INVITETHEGREENS PETITION TO STV

As of midday today (Fri 13 Mar) over 7,500 people have signed the #invitethegreens petition, calling on STV to rethink their proposal to exclude the Scottish Greens from its Westminster election debate.

Today Patrick Harvie MSP, Co-convener of the Scottish Greens, wrote to the leaders of Scotland's four other main parties inviting them to support the campaign for inclusion. Two of our MP candidates, Ross Greer (East Dunbartonshire) and Richard Doherty (Edinburgh South-west), handed in the letter to Nicola Sturgeon at SNP HQ this morning.

The Scottish Greens point to polling figures and membership numbers showing that debates including the Libdems but not the Greens would be unreasonable.

Patrick Harvie MSP said:

"The huge amount of public support we've received in the last 24 hours shows how out of step STV are. The support of other parties to include the Greens in the UK-wide debates was undoubtedly a factor in the rethink by the UK broadcasters. It's clear this diversity is exactly what Scotland's voters expect of Scottish broadcasters such as STV.

"We look forward to receiving the support of the other party leaders, and we're grateful for the thousands of members of the public putting pressure on STV."
