MSP Slams Vale of Leven Out of Hours Plans

Green MSP Ross Greer spoke out in Parliament on Tuesday (30 May) about threatened withdrawal of GP Out of Hours Services at Vale of Leven Hospital. The move, which would mean local residents traveling to Paisley to access emergency primary care services, was heavily criticised by MSPs during a parliamentary debate.

Speaking in the debate, Ross Greer, Green MSP for the West of Scotland, which includes the Vale of Leven, said: “When it comes to primary care services - these should be available in your local community and from a GP that you know and trust. That is exactly what is under threat at the Vale of Leven. Year on year, services have been chipped away.”

“I do not see how forcing people experiencing a health issue to travel all the way to Paisley will deliver better care.  For people with disabilities or parents with young children in particular, access to healthcare will suffer from restrictions on out of hours GPs. Local residents certainly don’t think it will improve the service – and they are its users. The Scottish Government need to listen to the community and intervene to take this cut off the table.”
