Ministers must change their approach to FOI to restore public confidence

Scottish Green MSPs today (13 June) urged Scottish Ministers to act swiftly after an investigation by the Information Commissioner found that ministers' handling of Freedom of Information requests is "inconsistent" and "not clear" about the role of political special advisers, and ministers take longer to respond to journalists than to other requests.

Scottish Green MSP Andy Wightman said:

“This is a damning report, and vindicates the complaints of many journalists and researchers that Scottish Ministers are slow and inconsistent in how they release information that the public are entitled to. I welcome Ministers' commitment to implement the recommendations in full and urge them to do so swiftly in order to restore public confidence.”
