Liz Truss was brought down by her own recklessness
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss was brought down by her own recklessness and economic mismanagement, say the Scottish Greens. This comes after Truss wrote a 4000 word essay claiming to have failed because of an economic establishment that opposed her vision.
The Scottish Greens economic spokesperson, Maggie Chapman MSP, said:
"This absurd attempt to rewrite history won't work. Liz Truss wasn't brought down by any supposedly left wing economic establishment. She was brought down by her own recklessness and economic mismanagement.
"Her tenure may have only been a few weeks long, but she did years worth of damage. Her policies caused runaway inflation and plunged families across the country into poverty and deprivation.
"She showed the same disregard for our climate, announcing dozens of new climate wrecking oil exploration licences and trying to bring back fracking.
"It was only three months ago. We all remember. That's why this comeback will go down about as well as her notorious budget.
"The people of Scotland have now been stuck with 13 years of Tory rule that we did not vote for. It's not just Liz Truss that we need to get away from, it's the party that chose her and the disastrous policies that she represents.
“With the powers of a normal independent country we can ensure that we always get the governments we vote for, not more years of this ridiculous and dangerous Tory soap opera.”
