Johnstone says boosting NHS workers’ pay is vital, as Scot Gov offers nine per cent over three years

Scottish Greens health spokesperson Alison Johnstone MSP says boosting NHS workers’ pay is vital, as the Scottish Government offers nurses, midwives and paramedics a nine per cent rise over the next three years.

The proposals would benefit 147,000 staff under the Agenda for Change pay system.

Alison Johnstone, health spokesperson for the Scottish Greens and MSP for Lothian, said:

“Nurses, midwives and other health professionals deserve fair pay and we know that recruitment and retention of staff in our NHS is a huge issue. I’m sure workers and unions will want to take time to examine the details of the offer over the coming weeks. Boosting workers’ pay following years of real-terms cuts is vital to tackling the challenges in health and social care.
“As well as investing in staff, we need more focus on providing care packages and home adaptations to prevent delayed discharges in our hospitals, and of course we face a nightmare scenario from Brexit, as restricting the supply of doctors, nurses and social care staff coming to work in Scotland will hamper any efforts at progress.”
