Holly Bruce takes campaign to save Queen’s Park Glasshouse to Parliament
Scottish Green MSP Holly Bruce will lead a debate in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday calling for action to secure a positive future for Glasgow’s much-loved Queen’s Park Glasshouse.
The debate comes after a huge community campaign helped prevent the site from closing this summer. While the immediate threat of closure has been lifted, its long-term future remains uncertain, with significant investment and a sustainable plan needed to ensure the iconic building can continue to serve its community.
Holly has been a leading voice in the campaign to protect the Glasshouse. Her motion, which has received cross-party support, calls for the site to be recognised and protected as a cultural heritage asset. It also urges the Scottish Government to work with Glasgow City Council and local residents to secure its future.
After a vibrant community campaign Glasgow City Council intervened to protect the site from immediate closure, but its long-term future is still unresolved.
Campaigners will gather outside Holyrood ahead of the debate to demonstrate their support for saving the site.

“The Queen’s Park Glasshouse is a special place for people across the Southside and beyond. For generations, it has been somewhere that people have celebrated, learned, met friends, brought their children, and simply enjoyed being together.
“That’s why the campaign to save it has brought so many people together. The Glasshouse isn’t just a beautiful building — it is part of the fabric of the community, and it holds decades of memories for the people who have visited it.
“I’m really glad that the immediate threat of closure has been pushed back, but we can’t stop there. Our community, and the people who fought so hard to save the Glasshouse, deserve to know that it has a future.
“At a time when communities across Glasgow have already lost too many much-loved community spaces, we should be doing everything we can to protect the ones we still have.
“The strength of the campaign has shown just how much people care about this place. Now we need to turn that energy into a long-term plan to save the Glasshouse, invest in it and make sure it can continue to be part of community life for generations to come.
“I hope that my colleagues across the Chamber will recognise the value in saving the Queen’s Park Glasshouse from closure, and commit to working alongside Glasgow City and residents to give it the proud future that it deserves.”

“That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the deep cultural, historical and environmental significance of the Queen’s Park Glasshouse to the Glasgow Southside constituency and the wider city; notes what it considers to be the significant public support for protecting this cultural heritage asset, evidenced by a Glasgow City Council petition signed by more than 13,000 people; understands that the glasshouse supports a range of crucial community priorities and that maintaining public access is important for heritage preservation, community cohesion, urban greenspace, accessible public toilets and dedicated opportunities for children’s play; believes that the safeguarding and sustainable revitalisation of the glasshouse aligns directly with key Scottish Government strategic ambitions, including those under the National *Planning* Framework 4, the Climate Change Plan and the Health and Social Care Strategy; notes the view that additional investment is required to bring the glasshouse back to its full potential, and further notes calls for the Scottish Government to meet with representatives of the Save Queen's Park Glasshouse campaign and Glasgow City Council to discuss all opportunities for the future of the glasshouse.”
