Hollies in Musselburgh saved with emergency funding

East Lothian Greens have welcomed reports that the Hollies Community Hub has been granted emergency funding to prevent it from closing.

Just last week, Lorna Slater MSP wrote to the Council to press for support for the centre.

Media reports suggest that the Council has agreed immediate funding to create a stop gap.

However, Shona McIntosh, Scottish Greens Candidate for Musselburgh, has argued that while this will keep the centre open, it does not ensure its future - which is what people of Musselburgh want.

Shona commented:

Hollies Community Hub is precisely the kind of community-led service Greens would urge the Council to prioritise.

Sadly the struggles the Hollies are facing are symptomatic of the health and social care crisis in East Lothian. The Hub needs a secure future and I would urge the Council to play a full role in helping to deliver that.

More broadly, we need a health and social care crisis summit to discuss a way forward for the county, involving residents, patients, staff, trade unions and Community Councils as well as officials and elected representatives.
