Health Secretary must come before parliament over NHS Tayside, says Johnstone.
Alison Johnstone MSP, Scottish Greens Health spokesperson, has called on the Cabinet Secretary for Health to come before Parliament at the earliest opportunity and explain why she delayed intervention, despite long-standing concerns regarding the running of NHS Tayside.
The appointments of a new Chair and Chief Executive comes following a prolonged period of controversy at NHS Tayside, culminating in allegations this week of misuse of charitable funds.
Alison Johnstone said:
“I am extremely concerned at the apparent ease with which NHS Tayside’s constitution appears to have been cast aside to enable the use of charitable funds. This raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability, concerns that the Scottish Government must adequately and urgently address. I would like to understand what drives a Board to make such an astonishing decision. Sustainable funding for core services is key if we are to deliver high quality health care in Scotland to all who need it.”
“The Cabinet Secretary for Health has many serious questions to answer about this incredibly worrying affair at her local health board. It is vital that she comes before parliament at the earliest opportunity and explains to MSPs why she waited so long to take appropriate action.
“The people of Dundee, Angus, and Perth and Kinross deserve better from their health board than the mismanagement of recent times and I hope the new Chair and Chief Executive can now adequately support the hardworking front line staff to deliver that.”
