Greens urge scunnered Labour voters to abandon Sarwar and Starmer

Labour is a shell of the party it is meant to be.

The Scottish Greens are picking up the moral pieces that Labour have dropped on their quest to pander to Nigel Farage and Reform, says Greens co-leader Gillian Mackay.

Since Keir Starmer took office he has inflicted cruel cuts on disabled people and racist anti-migrant policies without a word of protest from his Scottish colleagues.

In Scotland Labour hasn't even tried to amend this year's budget, undermining parties who have taken the time to make a difference.

Greens came to the table to negotiate, and have delivered on Green priorities by funding more school breakfasts than ever before and funding with taxes on the wealthy, including a levy on million-pound mansions and climate wrecking private jets and ending handouts for shooting estates.

Gillian said:

“The Labour party is a shell of the party it is meant to be.

“Anas Sarwar has stood by and refused to challenge Keir Starmer while he has attacked some of the most vulnerable people and pandered to Reform.

“He has backed every single one of his boss’s disastrous decisions. He has chosen loyalty to Keir Starmer over standing up for Scotland. Politics without values quickly becomes politics without direction.

“We are months out from an election, but that doesn’t mean we must shift our focus away from delivering bold change right now. Now is the time to keep the pedal to the metal and continue to work together to amend and pass legislation that will make people’s lives in Scotland better.

“There are many Scottish Labour voters who are angry and scunnered by the inaction from the party they have supported.

“The Scottish Greens are here and we're ready to pick up the moral pieces Labour has dropped and fight for a better future for Scotland.

“We have come to the table over Budget negotiations, and we have made a difference, with commitments made to tax wealth through private jets, higher tax for million pound houses and no more tax breaks for shooting estates.

"Labour has totally undermined the process by walking away from it and admitting that they aren't even trying to improve it.

“Going into the election, our priority will be on delivering bold policies that make people’s lives better.

“When so many people are struggling, when wages are low and living costs are high, it’s not rocket science that we need to do something to fix that.

“Labour is beholden to its eye-wateringly rich donors, but we will always prioritise the wellbeing of people and their families' over the wealth of a small number of individuals and big businesses. Because a fair Scotland where everyone thrives is the one I want to live in, and the one we all deserve.”
