Greens repeat demand to ban Trump’s troops from Prestwick, following Iran attacks

The Scottish Greens have urged the Scottish Government to break from Keir Starmer by ending US military access to publicly-owned infrastructure, including Prestwick airport.
The call comes after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer publicly offered UK bases for US military use by Trump’s troops.
Data compiled by the Scottish Greens using Flightradar24 shows that US military flights landed at Prestwick Airport over 550 times between April 2025 and February 2026, with activity occurring on most days.
Scottish Greens External Affairs spokesperson, Patrick Harvie MSP said:
“Donald Trump is not a man who cares about the people of Iran. The bombing has already killed civilians and endangered people across the region.
“His role in arming Israel's genocide against Palestinians, his coup against Venezuela, and his threats against Greenland have all served as red flags of the reckless way he acts on the world stage.
“Keir Starmer’s decision to allow US forces to use UK bases is in no way conducive to peace or stability. He risks dragging the UK further into yet another illegal war, just as Tony Blair did before him. The Scottish Government must not do the same.
“The US military’s continued use of our airports risks making Scotland complicit with actions in conflict with international law. Prestwick cannot be allowed to operate as a de facto base at the disposal of a foreign military policy we oppose.
"We are seeking urgent clarity about whether any Scottish sites have been used in these attacks, and an assurance that the Trump regime will not be allowed to use them in future.
Patrick added:
“We cannot stand by while yet another catastrophic regional war is unleashed. The Iranian people deserve safety and dignity — not to be trapped between the brutality of their own regime and the reckless aggression of Trump and Netanyahu.
“Escalation will not bring security, it will only deepen suffering across the region. If Scotland wants to be a nation committed to peace then we must ensure that our public assets are not offered to a White House that has no interest in human rights and international law.”
