Greens can win in Glasgow Southside

With former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon standing down from her Glasgow Southside constituency, the Scottish Greens have set their sights on gaining their first constituency seat, with local councillor Holly Bruce being announced as their candidate.
Holly, who has been the Scottish Greens councillor in Langside ward, delivered a record result for the Greens in 2022, winning the seat on first preferences ahead of SNP council leader Susan Aitken.
In the council, Holly has championed feminist town planning in Glasgow Council, which would see more street lighting in parks, more public toilets, and consultation with communities to make areas safer for everyone.
Ahead of the election next May, the party is focused on cutting household bills, tackling the climate emergency and redistributing wealth by taxing the richest in society.
Holly said:
“I am excited to be the Scottish Green voice in the Southside constituency. I have worked hard as a councillor for Langside for the past three years to build a better community, and now I can’t wait to be the voice of change across our great communities in the constituency.
“People in Southside deserve better. Rents are too high and the cost of living keeps going up, our climate is in a crisis, and Westminster politicians have failed us. Our movement is here to demand better.
“As your candidate for Glasgow Southside, I will always put people and planet before corporate greed, I will fight back against the millionaires who are pushing racist anti-migrant narratives, and I will call out the horrific genocide in Gaza.
“We are standing to make a change for the people of Southside and for Scotland. Together we can build an independent Scotland that is welcoming for all.”
Scottish Greens' longest serving MSP, and Glasgow candidate Patrick Harvie said:
“Holly achieved one of the best ever results for the Greens in Glasgow, winning her council ward on first preferences in 2022, even coming ahead of the Council Leader. Since then, she's been a great voice for the local community, and I have no doubt that she'll be a fantastic candidate for the constituency.
“Green support in Glasgow Southside has been growing steadily in recent years, and we're looking forward to the campaign for Holyrood, in Southside, across Glasgow, and throughout the country.”
